Starting with people...

"The future we want: what older persons are saying" is the theme chosen by United Nations for the observance of this year's International Day of Older Persons", kicking the observances for the month of October in high gear.  Who would know better than older persons themselves, what they want and/or need to survive in today's age?

The Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon has predicted:
"By 2050, the number of older persons will be twice the number of children in developed countries, and the number of older persons in developing countries is expected to double".

Astounding, to say the least, but if true, the way needs to be paved now, by governments, society and present day "older persons", to establish the foundation for a future that will support a world with a larger population of older persons.

October is
Family Health History Month

A Call For Teachers - will be shouted out again on October 5th, as teachers all over the world take time from their school routines to reinvigorate themselves and prepare for the challenges ahead.  World Teachers' Day has grown in popularity and importance over the last few years, as the roles they play continue to evolve in a highly technological world.  The most recent depression from which we are still recovering, has given rise to a new focus on entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Given where we are today, can you imagine what we will look like in the next 10 years?  Wherever the winding path may lead, teachers have the divine appointment of educating generations of children to meet the needs.

Celebrate October's
National Book Month
Dictionary Day (Oct 16)

International Day of the Girl Child will see another infusion of activity surrounding the educational needs of young females under the theme:  Innovating for Girls Education.  While many countries treat the educational needs of girls the same way as boys, there are still some that don't.  In fact, in those countries of inequality, even when girls are allowed to attend school for a few years, the expected outcome is very low.

October is Crime Prevention Month!

The International Day of Rural Women will see many discussions on how to achieve better conditions across various platforms for this group.  Empowerment is a word we are all too familiar with and its engagement yield results second to none.  Empowering Rural Women is believed to be the catalyst to ending poverty and hunger in certain parts of the world.

Celebrate the following heritages during this month
German - Italian - Polish - Filippino

As we turn into the latter half of the month, good leaders will be recognized for their efforts (and maybe some not-so-good leaders will be encouraged to do better), on National Bosses Day.  There always seems to be some level of debate on whether or not employees should observe this day so here's my advice.  If you have a great boss then doing something is a no-brainer!  If you have a mediocre or a bad boss, be better than them, take the high road and do something that says: have a really nice day!  After all, the good we do always makes us feel better!
